2,517 CLEANUP ACTIONS ON WORLD CLEANUP DAY 2020!

World Cleanup Day was a great success! With a total of 39,324 participants divided over 2,517 cleanup actions, we gave the Netherlands a big cleanup. Super! You can’t sign up for World Cleanup Day 2020 anymore, but check below where actions took place in your neighbourhood.
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at World Cleanup Day 2021!

Did you already register a cleanup and you want to manage or change your cleanup? Then click on the button to create an account or to log in.

But keep the following mind! You can only create an account after you have pinned a cleanup on the map. This can be done in the map above. Use the same email address you entered when you registered your cleanup.

ORGANISE YOUR OWN CLEANUP

You can choose for a public cleanup, or you can keep it private. When you opt for a public one, everybody can join your cleanup. When you go for a private one, you need to fill in how many people will be taking part – but know that your cleanup will not be open to people you have not invited yourself. Always make sure that you follow the RIVM guidelines during your cleanup.

TAKE PART IN AN EXISTING CLEANUP

Do you prefer to take part in a cleanup that has already been registered by somebody else? Then click on the pink pin on the map that symbolises the action that you would like to join.  Always make sure that you follow the RIVM guidelines during the cleanup.

After you’ve registered your cleanup or participation on the map, we will send you a confirmation email with all the details of your registration. We will also send you more information about how to get prepared for World Cleanup Day.

GET READY

Make your cleanup a big success! Good preparation is essential. Please take a look at our handy checklist below!

  • RIVM

Adhere to RIVM guidelines at all times! We’ve listed these for you here.

  • Safety first

The safety of your team is the most important! Don’t try to clean up along a busy road. Wherever you are working, make sure you are always aware of the traffic. Wearing brightly-coloured clothing will help to make sure you can be easily seen.

  • Tell your friends

Tell your friends, neighbours, and family about your cleanup. If you have organised or are taking part in an open cleanup, everybody can join using the map of the Netherlands.

  • Share your cleanup

Share your cleanup via Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp. The more participants you can recruit, the bigger and more successful World Cleanup Day will be!

  • Litterati-app

Make sure that you and your team members have downloaded the Litterati-app and that they use it correctly. Here are the instructions.

  • Clean up litter in couples

Clean up litter in couples. You’ll progress more quickly if one person registers the litter in the Litterati-app while the other person puts it in your rubbish bag.

  • Check your battery

Make sure that the smartphones that you and your team are using are fully charged when you start so that you can continue to use the Litterati-app. If possible, take a power bank with you so that you can re-charge if necessary.

  • Before | After photos

Make BEFORE and AFTER photos of your team with your full rubbish bag(s). That’s great for social media! Don’t forget to tag us in your post: on Twitter: @plasticsoupfoun, on Facebook: @plasticsoupfoundationnl and @LetsDoItNetherlands & on Instagram: @plasticsoupfoundation and use the hashtag #WorldCleanupDayNL

  • Keep your team up to date

Make sure that your team is aware of any changes in your cleanup, like the starting time, location, or duration of the cleanup.

  • Rubbish bags

It’s important that you take enough rubbish bags with you. You can hand out bags, but you can also ask the participants to bring their own. Whatever you choose, make sure you communicate with your team members!

  • Cleaning gloves

Take gloves with you for hygiene. Best, of course, is if everybody brings their own gloves. And try to avoid single-use gloves that will end up in the rubbish bag!

  • Trash pickers

We advise everyone to clean up with gloves and – if possible – also with a gripper! These are often available from your local authority (gemeente). Please contact your local council in time. They probably know them as ‘vuilnisgrijpers’ 😉

  • Be recognizable

It’s great if your team is recognizable, so everybody can see that you are working together. If your team represents a business or an organisation, it’s an excellent tool for team building.
